Seminar day for researchers on research in the netarchive.dk

Seminar day for researchers on research in the netarchive.dk

Allowed by the Danish Legal Deposit Law the Royal Danish Library systematically collected parts of the Danish internet in a growing archive.

The Netarchive holds for example articles and comments from digital Medias and a long range of other digital sources, which is a part of the Danish cultural heritage.

The internet is living and volatile. We know that hyperlinks have short expiration dates, and in the future much material will only exist in a digital format. So there is good reason to start using the Netarchive now.

The Netarchive holds more than 28 billion objects. It is mainly html-files, but there are also 5.5 billion images and a lot more (see below):

html :

image : 5.693.388.731

other : 3.849.685.328

text : 709.180.536

pdf : 93.904.368

audio : 7.955.787

video : 6.938.566

The access to the Netarchive is through either OpenWayback, where you enter a specific URL, which then would be shown on different periods, or BlackLight, where you enter a simple text search and get a list of results for those. Focused work is done on developing a third access option, SolrWayback, and that would provide an even way to search the Netarchive.
