Transkribus Introduction Workshop In-Person
This workshop is aimed at students and staff with an interest in digitization of cultural heritage.
A dream about an easy access to the content of the millions of historical manuscripts that European cultural heritage institution preserves is the driving force in the development of the Transkribus Software.
Transkribus
Transkribus is handwriting recognition software that semi-automate transcription using artificial intelligence. The transcriber trains the software, and step-by-step the software will learn to recognize the signs and words by itself. A well-trained software would make a huge different and be a great contribution to a digitization project.
At the Royal Danish Library there exist for the time being a project where Transcribus is used to digitize a large collection of handwritten protocols. These protocols contains information about the collections of manuscripts and private archives and a digitization of those protocols would mean that the public will get better access to those collections in the future.
Research Librarian, Jakob K. Meile, who leads the project will introduce Transkribus and deliver a fresh impression of the advantages and challenges using this modern technology.
The introduction will deal with how to prepare a manuscript, how to divide a page into lines and text fields, and how to use an AI-model to transcribe.
