Træd ind i den vævede verden af cambodiansk silkeikat, hol på khmer, en væveteknik som anvender batikfarvning, og som er et århundrede gammelt håndværk. Mens silkeproduktion og vævning var aktiviteter som var knyttet til landsbyboernes liv på landet, producerede de kongelige værksteder raffinerede silketekstiler til at forsyne det kongelige cambodianske hof.

Udstillingen Ikatvævning: En cambodiansk renæssance kaster lys på den rige kulturarv og historie, herunder dens kulturelle, tekniske og visuelle betydning. Ligeledes tager udstillingen ikatvævningens overlevelse, vitalitet og modstandsdygtighed i betragtning i et nutidigt perspektiv.

Enter the woven world of Cambodian silk ikat, hol in Khmer, a resist-dye weaving technique and century-old textile craft. While sericulture and weaving have been activities grounded in villagers’ lives in the countryside, royal workshops also produced refined silk textiles to supply the Cambodian royal court.

The exhibition The Art of Ikat: A Cambodian Renaissance looks into this rich heritage and history, in terms of cultural, technical and visual significance, also considering its survival, vitality and resilience in contemporary times.

The exhibition is open from the February 22 until May 31, 2024 at Copenhagen University Library, South Campus, Karen Blixens Plads 7, 2300 Kbh. S.
