Academic literature search - ONLINE In-Person

Take a course in academic literature search at the library: Here, we will teach you everything from how to start investigating subject areas to finding the latest articles that can address your research question!

The course is divided into two parts:

In the first 45 minutes of the course, we will demonstrate the basics of academic literature searching. You will receive some simple tools to find relevant information about your topic. We will introduce you to:

  • Concept clarification

  • Search tools such as Boolean operators

  • Exploring the subject area through handbooks and interdisciplinary databases

In the second part of the course, we delve deeper into systematic searching in subject-specific databases. We will present to you:

  • Use of thesaurus (concept dictionary)

  • Use of search history to refine search results

  • Citation searching

The course will be a blend of presentations from the instructor and hands-on exercises.

All fields of study are welcome, though we will focus on social science topics and databases.

The course will be online and you will receive a zoom-link two days before the event.
