SUMMARY:Open up your Academic Publishing Toolbox - a course for PhD students [SCIENCE/SUND]
DESCRIPTION:This course is a one-day workshop that takes place 21. 
 September 2021 from 8:45 to 16:00 and participation for the whole day is 
 required to receive ECTS credit.\n\nDescription\n\nAcademic publishing is a 
 cornerstone in any research career and the foundation for how universities 
 and funders evaluate the researchers. This course will address the 
 opportunities and challenges that you as PhD student might face in the 
 process of publishing your research as journal articles (or monographs) and 
 data publications. The aim of the course is to provide you with knowledge\, 
 skills and tools for publishing your research openly and responsibly while 
 fulfilling the demands of your university\, your funder and your research 
 community.\n\nThe workshop sessions will cover:\n\n\n	Copyright in 
 publishing\n	Creative Commons licenses\n	Open access 
 publishing\n	Responsible metrics and evaluation of researchers\n	Research 
 impact and evaluation\n	Management and optimization of researcher 
 profiles\n	Data management and the FAIR principles  \n\n\nYou will also 
 have the opportunity to put forward your questions and problems for 
 discussion. Active participation and exchange of ideas is 
 encouraged.\n\nLearning objectives\n\nAfter the course\, you will be able 
 to:\n\n\n	Plan your research and develop suitable publishing strategies 
 together with your supervisor and colleagues\n	Apply your new knowledge to 
 publish your research in a responsible way\n	Interpret terms and conditions 
 from publishers\n	Choose appropriate and preferably open publishing models 
 for your manuscripts and research data\n	Increase the visibility of your 
 publications and research data\n	Use bibliometric indicators responsibly 
 and strategically to make your research visible in applications for funding 
 and research positions\n\n\nWorkshop format\nThis course consists of 
 different workshop sessions. All sessions contain a combination of 
 presentations\, discussions\, teaching cases and hands-on 
 activities.\n\nPreparation and workload\nCompletion of the course yields 1 
 ECTS equivalent to a total of 21 working hours\, including preparation and 
 homework assignments. In addition to participating in all workshop 
 sessions\, you are required to:\n\n\n	complete a digital survey with 
 preparatory questions. You must fill out and submit the survey one week 
 before start of the course in order to receive the ECTS credit. The survey 
 takes about 1 hour to complete.\n	prepare for the course with several small 
 assignments including mandatory and recommended reading of relevant 
 literature. You will receive detailed information about the curriculum 
 after registration. You should expect to spend up to 10 hours for 
 preparation.\n	submit a homework assignment within 5 working days after 
 course end. This assignment will take about 2\,5 hours. Completion of the 
 homework assignment is mandatory in order to receive the ECTS 
 credit.\n	fill out an evaluation form within 5 working days after the 
 course.\n\n\nTarget group\nPhD students from SUND/SCIENCE\, University of 
 Copenhagen. Academic staff (VIP) and PhD students from other universities 
 are also welcome\; however\, 80% of the places on the course are reserved 
 for PhD students from the University of Copenhagen.\n\nAbsalon - course 
 administration\, communication and all assignments \nPlease note that you 
 must enrol in the course in UCPH’s learning platform\, Absalon\, in order 
 to participate. Here\, you will also have the opportunity to discuss with 
 your classmates and the teachers before and after the course.\n\nAll 
 participants employed at the University of Copenhagen will receive an 
 invitation for the course in Absalon to their KU mail and therefore please 
 enrol for the course with your KU mail.  Please accept this invitation and 
 log on with your regular credentials.\n\nParticipants who do not have UCPH 
 credentials must create a profile for Absalon and sign up to the course 
 under this link: https://absalon.instructure.com/register (click on 
 “I’m a student” and use the join code that we will send you after 
 registration)). Please add your preferred email address to your profile in 
 Absalon in order to receive course notifications (and for password recovery

 must participate in the all workshop sessions and complete the assignments 
 for preparation and homework as described above in order to receive the 
 ECTS credit.\n\nCourse certificates\nYou will receive the course 
 certificate by mail after the end of the course and once you have completed 
 the course evaluation and the homework assignment. You are required to 
 forward the certificate to the PhD school at your faculty to receive 
 credit. Some faculties/PhD schools require PhD students to use frontPlanner 
 when allocating ECTS credits\, so make sure how it works at your

 binding. Cancellation must be received in writing and submitted to 
 phdcourses@kb.dk no later than 7 days prior course start for the sake of 
 logistic reasons and to avoid waste of food.\n\nLast day for 
 registration\n13/9\n\nMinimum attendance \n15 (not including the 
 presenters). Notification of cancellation will be emailed one week prior 
 course start.
